Care & Counseling

At IBC, we work hard to foster a culture of discipleship, where members care for other members through word, prayer, and good deeds. In a fallen world, we also expect things to go wrong, and to that end, we often need focused help from others to sort things out. While every Christian has a responsibility to live in a loving and caring way towards others (Romans 15:14), our church recognizes that some are uniquely gifted to help with life’s most difficult problems.

The Nature of Counseling at IBC

The type of counseling we do is referred to as “biblical counseling.” Our goal is to erect from the Bible a model and method to wisely help people in their problems. As biblical counselors, we seek to build strong relationships and help people to apply the gospel in ways that are meaningful, life-giving, and directed. Our counseling is shaped by a Christ-centered view of human life, as found in the Christian Scriptures.

This means we take the physical, social, and developmental nature of our difficulties seriously. We believe that people can be healed, strengthened, and built up as they grow in their understanding of the gospel and their relationship with Christ and others. However, this doesn’t happen apart from our dependence on Him and seeking the help He offers through His ordained means, and His church.

Limitations in Counseling

While our pastoral staff and counseling team is happy to meet with non-members, the pastors, as well as the counseling team, prioritize members.   Our counselors use their gifts as a ministry to the church body. With limited time, they prioritize care for our members.

Crisis Pregnancy Counseling

If you or someone you know is facing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy situation, we would be happy to talk with you.

We also highly recommend Alternatives Pregnancy Center. Alternatives Pregnancy Center is a non-profit women’s medical health clinic licensed by the State of California and dedicated to meeting the medical, emotional, material, and spiritual needs of women facing unplanned pregnancies.

The licensed medical professionals and the specially trained volunteer Client Advocates provide free and confidential pregnancy services, including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, nursing consultations, STD testing and treatment, Abortion Pill Reversal Services, Prenatal Care, and Well-Woman Visits. The Education Center at APC also offers prenatal, lactation, and parenting classes, as well as maternal and infant assistance.

If you have a counseling need, please contact our church office.
